Passage is the eighth studio album by American pop duo Carpenters, originally released in September 1977 via A&M Records.
Passage was the first studio album by the Carpenters not to contain any original songs. The albums were all cover songs and included the song “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” from the opera Evita.
The band selected a song by Canadian progressive rock band Klute that became a successful single “Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft”. “All You Get From Love Is A Love Song” was also a successful single.
Juice Newton’s song “Sweet, Sweet Smile” was the third single from the album and charted on both the US pop and country singles charts, making a surprising cross over hit for the band.
By the late 1970s the Carpenter’s popularity was declining and their sound was becoming less friendly with radio programmers in the US. The album peaked at #49 on the US Billboard 200, #12 on the UK and #48 on the Australian Albums charts.
Check out the tracks: “All You Get From Love Is A Love Song”; “Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft (The Recognized Anthem Of World Contact Day)”; “Sweet, Sweet Smile”; and “On The Balcony Of The Casa Rosada / Don't Cry For Me Argentina (From The Opera "Evita")”.
This LP record is a 2017 reissue on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl featuring remastered audio with replicated original album artwork with a gatefold sleeve, pressed in the US.
