Nicole Atkins - Slow Phaser

Slow Phaser is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Nicole Atkins, released in February 2014 via Oh Mercy! Records.

Nicole Atkins has released four studio albums and her sound is known for its mix of traditional vocal styles and introspective lyrics. She has been compared to Roy Orbison and singers from the Brill Building era.

Nicole returned to Malmö Sweden in the winter of 2012 to record her new album Slow Phaser in the same location where she had recorded her debut album Neptune City in 2007. Slow Phaser was produced by Tore Johansson and the album was released to rave reviews.

Having dealt with the separation from her major label Columbia Records after releasing her debut album in 2007, and a relationship break-up that dominated her second album Mondo Amore (2011), Atkins has delivered a strong album. Slow Phaser shows Atkins to be firmly in control of her destiny, delivering her most confident and artistic album to date.

Her songwriting has matured and the production showcases the bottom end of the band with rich bass lines, steady drums, analogue synths, progressive rock themed arrangements and soulful backing vocals.

The first single “Girl You Look Amazing” has an up-tempo groove and brings a sense of fun to a song that highlights her smoky, sultry vocals. The second single “Who Killed The Moonlight?” ” has an almost disco like groove, like a throwback to the production style of the late 1970s, with it’s distinctive bass lines.

Other strong tracks include “Sin Song”; “Above As Below”; “The Worst Hangover” and “Red Ropes”.

The album reached #143 on the US Billboard 200 Albums chart.
