Neil Diamond - The Jazz Singer

The Jazz Singer is the fourteenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Neil Diamond, originally released in November 1980 via Capitol Records.

This album was the soundtrack album to the 1980 remake of the 1927 classic film The Jazz Singer, which starred Neil Diamond, Laurence Olivier and Lucie Arnaz.

The film was a critical failure, earning Diamond the first Razzie for Worst Actor at the 1st Golden Raspberry Awards, but made a modest profit at the box office, grossing almost double its budget. However, the soundtrack album was a huge success, becoming Diamond’s biggest selling album in the United States, selling more than 5 million copies.

Three songs from the album became Top 10 pop singles, “Love On The Rocks”, “Hello Again” and “America”. The album was produced by Bob Gaudio (of The Four Seasons), and he also arranged the backing vocals for the album.

The album reached #3 on the US Billboard 200, #3 on the UK and #10 on the Australian Albums charts.
