Katy Perry - Witness

Witness is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Katy Perry, released in June 2017 via Capitol Records.

Following the success of her 2013 album Prism and Prismatic World Tour, Perry took a break to focus on giving her mental health a break before working on new material for a follow-up album. During this period she developed enough new material to commence work on producing her follow-up album in 2016.

The new album Witness sees a progression for Perry into electro-pop territory with a diversity of sounds and musical aspects. The album brings together a number of influences with grooves and atmosphere that pick and choose elements from 1990s house music, mainstream EDM, electro-tinged hip-hop, and 1980s new wave. As a consequence, the album has divided music critics, some of whom rave about the album, and others who consider it to be a “musical muddle”.

There are guest appearances from Nicki Minaj on “Swish Swish”, Skip Marley on “Chained To The Rhythm” and Migos on “Bon Appétit”.

Commenting on the distinctive album cover artwork, Perry said: "Music has allowed me to travel, which has reeducated my mind and changed my perspective on so much, so my education and my consciousness comes from my voice, and that's how I see, and that's how I witness you and that's how you witness me and that's why the eye is in the mouth."

The album debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200 Albums chart and has reached #2 in Australia and #6 in the UK.
