Idles - Joy As An Act Of Resistance

Joy As An Act Of Resistance is the second studio album by English punk rock band Idles, originally released in August 2018 via Partisan Records.

The follow up to their critically acclaimed debut album Brutalism (2017), Joy As An Act Of Resistance also received wide spread acclaim. The album peaked at No. 5 on the UK Album Charts in September 2018.

Idles consists of Joe Talbot (vocals), Mark Bowen (guitar), Lee Kiernan (guitar), Adam Devonshire (bass) and Jon Beavis (drums).

Produced by Space and mixed by Adam Greenspan and Nick Launay, the album's cover art features a photograph of a fight at a wedding in 1968 that Talbot saw on Instagram.

Joy As An Act Of Resistance lyrics deal with toxic masculinity, love, self-love, immigration, Brexit, and class. "June" deals with the death in childbirth of Talbot's daughter Agatha. The album also includes a cover version of the Solomon Burke hit "Cry To Me".

In December 2019, over a year after its release, the album was certified silver by the BPI for selling 60,000 copies in the UK.

This album is a 2022 reissue on black vinyl housed in a single pocket sleeve with a printed inner sleeve, pressed in Europe via Partisan Records.
