Ian Brown - The Greatest

The Greatest is a compilation album by British musician Ian Brown, released in September 2005 via Polydor Records.

Ian Brown is the lead singer of the British rock band The Stone Roses, whose debut album The Stone Roses (1989) is regarded as one of the greatest British albums ever recorded. The bands second album Second Coming (1994) did not live up to expectations generated by their debut, and the band eventually split in 1996 with Ian Brown pursuing a solo career. The Stone Roses have since reformed in 2011 and played live shows occasionally and recorded a couple of new singles.

Ian Brown’s first solo studio album Unfinished Monkey Business was released in 1998 and he has released a further five studio albums Golden Greats (1999), Music Of The Spheres (2001), Solarized (2004), The World Is Yours (2007) and My Way (2009). His solo albums have all charted strongly, with a number of them reaching Top 10 in the UK. He has also had fourteen Top 40 UK singles.

Ian Brown has also collaborated several times with British electronic / trip hop band UNKLE, of which two of these appear on this compilation album.

The Greatest features material that appeared on his first four solo studio album and includes two new songs "All Ablaze" and "Return of the Fisherman".

The Greatest showcases this wonderful singer and is a great introduction to his material. The album reached #5 on the UK Albums charts.
