Elton John - Wonderful Crazy Night

Wonderful Crazy Night is the 32nd studio album by British singer-songwriter Elton John, released in February 2016 via Island Records and Mercury Records.

The lyrics for the album were written by Bernie Taupin, continuing their long-term writing partnership which began in 1967.

The tracks for the album were recorded at the The Village, Los Angeles, CA, US between January 2014 and April 2014 with producer T-Bone Burnett. 

This was the first studio album Elton has recorded using his touring band since the 2006 album The Captain & The Kid.  The band comprises:

• Davey Johnstone - guitars, vocals
• Nigel Olsson - drums, vocals
• Matt Bissonette - bass, vocals
• Kim Bullard - keyboards
• John Mahon - percussion, vocals

Ray Cooper, Elton's long-time percussionist makes his first appearance on any of Elton's studio albums since Made In England in 1995.

The songs on the album are much more up-beat than the previous album The Diving Board, and Elton has commented that they reflect both himself and Taupin being in good and happy places in their personal lives with both now raising younger children.  The album harks back to the feel of the mid-1970's such as the Rock of The Westies album.

Elton also seems to be enjoying playing live with his current band at the moment, and this feeling is reflected in the songs on this recording.

The album was well received by music critics and garnered 4 stars (out of 5) by Rolling Stone magazine.

The album peaked at #8 in the US album charts, #6 in the UK charts and #11 in Australia.

Four singles have been lifted from the album to date - Looking Up, Wonderful Crazy Night, Blue Wonderful and A Good Heart.

The first single Looking Up extended his record for the most appearances in Billboard's Adult Contemporary (AC) chart at 71, where it reached #12 on the US AC Singles chart.
