The Maes - The Maes

The Maes is the third studio album by Australian indie folk band, The Maes, released in May 2019.

The Maes (formerly The Mae Trio) comprise sisters Maggie and Elsie Rigby who have released two studio albums Housewarming (2013) and Take Care, Take Cover (2017). Both albums generated considerable interest both in Australia and overseas and their live performances have cemented their reputation as songwriters, and musicians who weave together intricate, and moving instrumental and vocal harmonies.

Their new self titled album The Maes was written and recorded during a tour of Europe and North America in 2018, following the departure of founding member Anita Hillman (cello, vocals). Joining them on that tour was Brisbane based musician and cellist Monique Claire, who is featured on the new album.

The album features production from Daniel Ledwell (Oh Pep!, Jenn Grant, Good Lovelies), John Fitzgerald (Christy Moore, Crooked Still, Lisa Hannigan) and Brendon Love (Teskey Brothers).

The songs are very personal and reflective of events impacting both their lives, and make the album very individual. Their live shows in support of the album further strengthen the quality of the material, when they talk about some of the back stories to the songs.

The opening song and first single released “Treat You Better” was co-written with Australian indie folk musician John Flanagan and is a powerful statement of how to deal with people on an equal footing with love and respect.

This album is on Compact Disc housed in a gatefold sleeve cardboard wallet with a fold out lyric sheet, pressed in Australia.
