Slowdive - Everything Is Alive

Everything Is Alive is the fifth studio album by British rock band Slowdive, released in September 2023 via Dead Oceans Records. 

Slowdive are an English rock band that formed in Reading, Berkshire in 1989. The band consists of Rachel Goswell on vocals and guitar, Simon Scott on drums, Neil Halstead on vocals and guitar, Nick Chaplin on bass and Christian Savill on guitar. Several other drummers also briefly played with the band, including Adrian Sell, Neil Carter and Ian McCutcheon. Halstead is the band's primary songwriter.

Goswell and Halstead had known each other since early childhood in Reading, Berkshire. Scott left in 1994 and when Savill and Chaplin left the band soon after the release of Pygmalion, the remaining members renamed the band Mojave 3. Slowdive reunited in 2014.

Their sound has been described as dream pop, shoegaze, indie rock and ambient, and they are regarded as one of the key shoegaze bands that emerged in the UK from the late 1980s.

Everything Is Alive, Slowdive’s fifth album, is exactly what the title suggests: an exploration into the shimmering nature of life and the universal touch points within it.

While there are parts of this record that could sit neatly next to the atmospheric quality of 1995’s Pygmalion; Everything Is Alive also manages to break down the boundaries of what’s come before it.

Spanning psychedelic soundscapes, pulsating ‘80s electronic elements and John Cale inspired journeys, the album lands immediately as something made for 2023 and beyond.

The album has received critical acclaim upon release.
