Love & Peace is the tenth studio album by American blues musician Seasick Steve, released in July 2020 via Contagious and BMG.
Steven Gene Wold (born 1940/1941), commonly known as Seasick Steve, plays mostly personalized guitars, and sings, usually about his early life doing casual work.
When asked about his nickname, Wold has said: "because it's just true: I always get seasick". When he was ill on a ferry from Norway to Copenhagen, later in his life, a friend began playfully using the name and, despite Wold not rising to it for a while, it stuck.
In the 1960s, he started touring and performing with fellow blues musicians, and had friends in the music scene including Joni Mitchell. Since then, he has worked, on and off, as a session musician and studio engineer. Wold made his first UK television appearance on Jools Holland's annual Hootenanny BBC TV show on New Year's Eve 2006. He performed a live rendition of "Dog House Boogie" on the "Three String Trance Wonder" and the "Mississippi Drum Machine". After that show his popularity exploded in Britain, and he commented "I can't believe it, all of the sudden I'm like the cat's meow!"
Love & Peace sees Steve mixing up all of his much-loved ingredients to deliver a fresh new record. Full of hope for the future, it’s a great mix of boogie, blues, rock, Americana and folk; all delivered in Seasick Steve’s unique style.
Love & Peace features Seasick Steve’s long-time drummer Dan Magnusson (a.k.a. Crazy Dan), with contributions from guitarist Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars, ex Black Crowes) and harmonica player Malcolm Arison (The BossHoss).
The album was produced and written by Seasick Steve, and recorded in Los Angeles at Studio 606 and at East West Studio 3. The album was mixed by Vance Powell (Jack White, Chris Stapleton) and Seasick Steve.
In the liner notes Steve makes the following note: “Record was recorded on 2" analogue tape mixed to 1/2" analogue tape. Record lacquer cut from 1/2" mastertape. Direct to lathe, "old skool" no computer, hear what im sayin?”
This album is on heavyweight black vinyl with a printed inner sleeve, pressed in Europe via Contagious and BMG.
