Stony Road is the seventeenth studio album by British guitarist and singer songwriter Chris Rea, originally released in December 2002 via earMusic.

Embark on a sonic journey with the first-ever vinyl reissue of Chris Rea's album "Stony Road". Originally unveiled in 2002, this timeless album has been impeccably remastered to grace the vinyl format for the very first time, promising an enchanting encounter for audiophiles and collectors.

"Stony Road" is a melodic tapestry woven with Rea's distinctive gravelly vocals and soulful guitar riffs, creating an immersive experience for every listener. The album is a harmonious blend of blues, rock, and folk influences, reflecting Rea's eclectic musical palette.

The title track, "Stony Road", sets the tone with its haunting lyrics and bluesy instrumentation, while tracks like "Changing Times" and "Dancing My Blues Away" exude infectious energy and rhythm.

Most of the album is inspired by Delta blues, and Rea explained that "it's less aggressive than Chicago blues, and the guitar playing has a style I call curling: there are some notes that are not a sharp or a flat, but a bend of emotion. It's a mournful sound, and Delta people sing about deep pain, deep fear, and trying to save one's soul. Chicago players sing about girls and booze. Delta bluesmen were singing to the sky; Chicago bluesmen developed their stage act by singing to people who were drinking. It's a big difference". Particularly inspired by his original influence to take slide guitar, Charley Patton, others are Son House, Lead Belly, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Willie Johnson and Robert Johnson.

Each note is a brushstroke on the canvas of Rea's musical landscape, painting vivid imagery that resonates with the complexities of life.

This double album 2LP record set is a 2024 limited edition reissue on 180 gram orange coloured vinyl at 45 RPM housed in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves, pressed in Germany via earMusic.
