Sunday The Gospel According to Iso is the sixth studio album by Australian vocal duo Vika and Linda, released in September 2020 via Bloodlines.
Vika and Linda, also known as Vika and Linda Bull, are an Australian vocal duo consisting of sisters Vika Bull and her younger sister, Linda Bull. They came to prominence after singing backing vocals in Joe Camilleri's band The Black Sorrows from 1988. They left that group early in 1994 to start their own musical venture as a duo with a self-titled album Vika And Linda released in June 1994, which reached #7 on the Australian albums charts.
Vika and Linda Bull have released an inspired album of gospel songs simply titled Sunday The Gospel According To Iso.
When the first COVID-19 pandemic lockdown began in Melbourne in March 2020, Vika and Linda Bull decided to sing one gospel song each Sunday morning for their followers on social media. The weekly performance became known as the "Sunday Sing Song". Vika said "It's kept our spirits up and we've had great feedback from people".
Following the feedback, the sisters decided to record an album of gospel songs. Music director Cameron Bruce played piano from his home in New South Wales and sent the files to Melbourne where the sisters added the vocals.
Sunday The Gospel According To Iso is a careful selection of songs that move them, including compositions going back to the 1930s but with lyrics that still feel as relevant as ever in 2020.
Every song on the album was unearthed from their own collections, as well as recommendations from trusted musical friend Paul Kelly, with the exception of “Shallow Grave”, which was written especially for Vika & Linda by Kasey Chambers.
The album features songs originally recorded by Claude Ely, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Mahalia Jackson, Elder Curry, Chuck Berry, plus classics “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “Amazing Grace”.
The album has reached #2 on the Australian ARIA albums chart.
This album is a limited edition on white coloured vinyl with a printed inner sleeve and insert, pressed in Australia via Bloodlines.
