One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This was the group's first release of original material since their 1974 album Too Much Too Soon. The album was produced by Jack Douglas and written mostly by the two surviving band members David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain.

Guest artists on the album include Michael Stipe, Laura Jane Grace, and Iggy Pop. The bonus track on this edition “Seventeen” features blues musician Bo Didley on guitar.
