Powderfinger - Unreleased

Unreleased is the fourth compilation album by Australian rock band Powderfinger, released in November 2020 via Universal Music Australia.

Powderfinger were an Australian rock band that formed in Brisbane in 1989. Their line-up from 1992 until their break up in 2010 was Bernard Fanning (vocals), Darren Middleton (guitars), Ian Haug (guitars), John Collins (bass) and Jon Coghill (drums).

Following the release of a 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of their seminal album Odyssey Number Five, Powderfinger have released a new album titled Unreleased; their first album of new music in over a decade.

The album features ten tracks recorded between 1998 and 2010, which the band found whilst digging around for bonus material for the deluxe reissue of Odyssey Number Five.

Guitarist Darren Middleton told Double J: "Essentially what you're going to hear is the band spanning about 10 years, with songs that for one reason or another just didn't make the cut at the time, or just didn't suit the purposes of whatever we were doing."

"Day By Day" was released on 17 September 2020 as the first single from the album. The song was recorded for but not included on Vulture Street (2003). Vocalist Bernard Fanning said, "'Day By Day' was never completed until we opened the archives and went sniffing around for tracks that had never been released. We never even really had a rough mix of it as we had obviously decided at the time that it didn't quite fit with the rest of the songs on that album. Looking back now, I'm not sure why and I'm actually amazed we didn't find a place for it on the record. Once we found it, we had Nick DiDia remix it and get it into shape."

"Daybreak" was released as the second single on 13 November 2020.

This album is a limited edition on white coloured vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with a printed inner sleeve, pressed in Europe via Universal Music Australia.
