Golden Age Of Music is the debut studio album by Dutch progressive rock group Arjen Lucassen's Supersonic Revolution, released in May 2023 via Music Theories Recordings.
So you think you know Arjen Lucassen, huh? Towering Dutch prog rock polymath? The man behind the super successful prog rock conceptualists Ayreon? Not to mention his prog metal offshoots Star One and Guilt Machine? Enormous overarching concept albums about space and time, packed to the hilt with special guests that read like a who’s who of modern day progressive rock? Records that take as long to conceive as they do to record? That Arjen Lucassen? Well, think again...
'Golden Age Of Music', the latest album to feature Lucassen's not inconsiderable talents, may also feature stellar musicianship and killer tunes, but there is no storyline that takes place far into the future in the far flung depths of space.
Nor do the album's 11 tracks come courtesy of an unending list of guest artists. The end result is 11 tracks of high energy, progressively inclined heavy rock that swings with the kind of groove Deep Purple rocked with in the early to mid 1970s.
The project arose from a request of a German music magazine who asked Lucassen for a cover version. He instead proposed to record one for them and with a deadline of one week quickly put together a band with some of his favourite musicians. After recording a cover of ZZ Top's "Heard It On The X", they decided to form a band and record a studio album.
The cover art is designed by Claudio Bergamin. Like the songs, the cover art contains many references to media from the 1970s. This includes references to Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy and Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow.
This double album 2LP record set is a limited edition on transparent blue coloured vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with a printed insert, pressed in Europe via Music Theories.
