Kaytranada - 99.9%

99.9% is the debut studio album by Canadian electronic music producer Kaytranada, originally released in May 2016 via XL Recordings.

Kaytranada rose to prominence in 2012, after his unofficial remix of Janet Jackson’s "If” went viral among SoundCloud’s emerging dance scene. The rework put "If" in a contemporary, context-less light, with euphoric percussion and a new spin on Jackson’s vocals that shifted her from foreground to background. Thanks to this, and Kaytradada's equally brilliant follow-up remixes of Amerie and Missy Elliott, in early 2013, he flew on a plane for the first time since he emigrated to Canada from Haiti to play a show in Halifax, and was soon booking shows across Europe.

99.9% was recorded between 2014 and 2016, and was self produced by Kaytranda. The album includes features from GoldLink, Craig David, AlunaGeorge, Odd Future producer Syd tha Kid, Anderson .Paak, and Vic Mensa.

Inspired by Kaytranada's Hatian heritage, 99.9% infuses Haitian music’s distinct insistence on complex rhythms with genre-defying funk, soul, R&B, and dance. Throughout the album, Kaytranada keeps an organic approach. His record’s name is meant to suggest a certain sense of incompleteness; however it is a well-edited, and coherent debut.

Prior to the album's release, four singles "Leave Me Alone", "Drive Me Crazy", "Bus Ride", and "Glowed Up" were released.

This double album 2LP record set is a 2023 repress on black vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves and a CD album copy, pressed in the UK via XL Recordings.
