Gift is a compilation album by Greek electronic musician Vangelis, originally released in 1996 via Camden and BMG.
Vangelis is a Greek musician and composer of electronic, progressive, ambient, jazz, and orchestral music. He is best known for his Academy Award-winning score to Chariots of Fire (1981), as well as for composing scores to the films Blade Runner (1982), Missing (1982), Antarctica (1983), The Bounty (1984), 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992), and Alexander (2004), and for the use of his music in the PBS documentary Cosmos: A Personal Voyage by Carl Sagan.
Gift is a great compilation of Vangelis’s music, covering some of his compositions from the albums Heaven and Hell (1975) to Direct (1988). It can be seen as a retrospective of seminal ambient, vocal and choral works made by the pioneering new age keyboardist. The album featuring some of his finest recordings made during his contract with RCA Records, such as “Pulstar” and the “Theme From Cosmos”.
Gift includes three fantastic collaborations with John Anderson (Yes), including “So Long Ago, So Clear” taken from the 1975 Heaven and Hell suite.
The multiple-award-winning composer of electronic, progressive, orchestral and jazz music, Vangelis, started his career working in several successful bands, such as Aphrodite's Child. He has composed over 50 albums and is still creative in developing new musical concepts.
This compilation album is now available for the first time on vinyl as a limited edition of 2000 individually numbered copies on silver coloured vinyl.
This double album 2LP record set is a limited edition of 2000 individually numbered copies on 180 gram audiophile silver coloured vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with spot varnish finish on the front cover, pressed in Europe via Music On Vinyl.
