Tony Bennett & Bill Charlap - The Silver Lining: The Songs Of Jerome Kern

The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern is a studio album by Tony Bennett and Bill Charlap, released in September 2015 via Columbia and RPM Records.

After cutting a demo of "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" Tony Bennett signed with Columbia Records in 1950, and had his first number-one popular song with "Because of You" in 1951. Several top hits such as "Rags to Riches" followed in the early 1950s, reaching an artistic peak in the early 1960s with albums such as The Beat of My Heart and Basie Swings, Bennett Sings, and Bennett's 1962 signature song, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco".

Despite an extended downturn during the height of the rock music, Bennett staged a comeback in the late 1980s and 1990s, putting out more gold records, and expanding his reach to the "MTV Generation" while keeping his musical style intact. Throughout a 60 year career he has won two Emmy Awards, 19 Grammy Awards (including a Lifetime Achievement Award, presented in 2001), and has been named an NEA Jazz Master, selling over 50 million records worldwide.

A collaboration with pianist Bill Charlap, The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern continues on from the Grammy Award winning 2014 album Cheek to Cheek, and is a tribute to the great American musical theatre and popular music composer Jerome Kern, featuring songs that have become staples of the Great American Songbook. 

Upon its release, The Silver Lining topped the Jazz Albums chart, and debuted at number 89 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, going on to win the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.
