Wild Honey is the thirteenth studio album by American rock band The Beach Boys, originally released in December 1967 via Capitol Records.

This album takes a different turn melding pop, R&B and soul and some regard this as the band’s “party” album. The album’s production credits were to the band, as Brian Wilson was increasingly finding it difficult to take full lead responsibilities following the aborted Smile project. Carl Wilson took on a greater role with song writing and production, which would continue on further albums.

The album received a lukewarm reception on release, however has been re-evaluated by both fans and critics over time, who have come to appreciate the songs on the album for their simplicity and charm. The band had also moved away from extensive reliance on session musicians for the backing instrumentation, and were now playing the instruments themselves. With Brian taking more of a back seat role, the album was definitely less experimental and adventurous as compared to Pet Sounds (1966).

Two singles were released from the album “Wild Honey” and “Darlin’” that failed to have much impact on the charts.

Wild Honey peaked at #24 on the US Billboard 200 and #7 on the UK Albums chart.

In 2017 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the album, a stereo mix was released for the very first time.
