Unreleased Electronic Music is a compilation album by British progressive rock musician Steven Wilson, released in November 2014 via Tonefloat Records.
Known as "the king of prog rock", Steven Wilson best known as the founder, lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter of Porcupine Tree, as well as his production and audio engineering work, which he self-taught. His other projects include Bass Communion, Incredible Expanding Mindfuck (I.E.M.), and Blackfield. He has also worked with artists such as King Crimson, Pendulum, Jethro Tull, and Anathema.
His music has received widespread acclaim. He has been nominated four times for the Grammy Awards, twice with Porcupine Tree, twice with his collaborative band Storm Corrosion, and as a soloist on one occasion. In 2015, he received three awards at the London Progressive Music Awards for his services to progressive rock.
These experiments in rhythmic and electronic music by Steven Wilson were produced in the period between 1990 and 2003. It was first released in 2004 as a limited CD-R run of 350 copies.
With his involvement in the ambient Bass Communion project, one might have expected to be treated to meditative sound landscapes. Not even close. Dub-, drum'n'bass- and techno-rhythms are decisive, with sampled voices, electronic sound collages and alien guitars.
"To Wear A Crown" is the most obvious lean to aggressive industrial music while "King Of The Delta Blues" mixes industrial moods with blues vocal samples. The lyrical "Nuclear Head Of An Angel", played only on acoustic guitars, is quite exceptional.
Unreleased Electronic Music is essentially Wilson using the studio as an instrument, and playing for the fun of it. Fans of Wilson’s varied work will definitely enjoy this album, as will fans of experimental instrumental music.
