Insurgentes is the debut solo album from British musician and record producer Steven Wilson, released in March 2009 via Kscope.
Known as "the king of prog rock", Steven Wilson best known as the founder, lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter of Porcupine Tree, as well as his production and audio engineering work, which he self-taught. His other projects include Bass Communion, Incredible Expanding Mindfuck (I.E.M.), and Blackfield. He has also worked with artists such as King Crimson, Pendulum, Jethro Tull, and Anathema.
His music has received widespread acclaim. He has been nominated four times for the Grammy Awards, twice with Porcupine Tree, twice with his collaborative band Storm Corrosion, and as a soloist on one occasion. In 2015, he received three awards at the London Progressive Music Awards for his services to progressive rock.
Recorded in Mexico City, Japan, and Israe, Insurgentes is Steven Wilson's debut solo album. Named after Mexico's longest avenue, the Avenida de los Insurgentes, near where part of the album was recorded, the album is influenced by post-punk and shoegaze music, and is noise and drone-oriented, with Wilson citing bands like Joy Division, The Flaming Lips, and The Cure, as a major influences for the album.
The album was well recieved critically, earning a 4/5 review from AllMusic's François Couture, writing: "Insurgentes is an excellent slab of progressive-tinged alternative rock. The songwriting is sharp and punchy in the short tracks, and atmospheric and contrasted in the longer ones, with maybe a tad bit more input from Wilson's experimental project Bass Communion filtering through in the textures department".
Check out the tracks "Harmony Korine", "No Twilight Within the Courts of the Sun", and the album's title track "Insurgentes".
The vinyl edition of Insurgentes includes four bonus tracks not available on the CD/DVD edition, and was limited to 2000 copies.
This Limited Edition Double Album 2LP Record set is on 180 Gram Vinyl housed in a Gatefold Sleeve with 4 Bonus Tracks, pressed in Germany.
