Ivy And The Big Apples is the third studio album by Australian rock band Spiderbait, originally released in October 1996 via Polydor Records.

Formed in 1989 and boasting seven albums between 1992 and 2013, Spiderbait can proudly call themselves Australian Indie Rock pioneers – blending left-of-centre lyricism, crunchy riffs and a punk attitude into a distinctively Australian context.

Spiderbait originated in Finley, a small town in rural New South Wales, by bass guitarist Janet English, singer-drummer Mark Maher (better known as Kram), and guitarist Damian Whitty. In 2004 the group's cover version of the 1930s Lead Belly song Black Betty reached number one on the ARIA Singles Chart. They have five top 20 albums: The Unfinished Spanish Galleon of Finley Lake (1995), Ivy And The Big Apples (1996), Grand Slam (1999), Tonight Alright (2004), and Greatest Hits (2005). After a hiatus from 2004, the band released their first studio album in nine years, the self-titled Spiderbait in November 2013.

Previous album The Unfinished Spanish Galleon Of Finley Lake made Spiderbait stars in Australia, and Ivy And The Big Apples consolidated their position as one of the most popular Australian bands of the late 90s.

The gap between those two albums saw them trying to bring a more melodic approach to their music, which is certainly a welcome change, as shown on “Calypso” – which featured in the movie 10 Things I Hate About You. None-the-less this release retains their songs of originality, power and attitude.

Spiderbait have a simple formula (drums, guitar and bass) but they’ve got the right balance and produce a solid sound.

This album is a 25th Anniversary limited edition reissue on red coloured vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve, pressed in Australia via Polydor Records.
