Soundtrack - Joker

Joker is the soundtrack album to the 2019 original motion picture Joker, originally released in October 2019 via WaterTower music.

The soundtrack album consists of seventeen tracks from the film score written and composed by Icelandic musician and composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, which received critical acclaim from the film industry.

Indelibly portrayed by three-time Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix (“The Master,” “Walk the Line,” “Gladiator”), Arthur is a man facing the cruelty and outright scorn of society, along with the indifference of a system that allows him to spiral from vulnerability into depravity. Caught in a cyclical existence teetering on the precipice of reality and madness, one bad decision brings about a chain reaction of escalating, ultimately deadly, events. Phoenix stars in the titular role alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro (“Raging Bull,” “The Godfather: Part II”) as Franklin.

Guðnadóttir was asked by director Todd Phillips to write some music based on her feelings of the Joker screenplay, which she was inspired to do so as it resonated with her. She sent Phillips a sample of her composition which included melodies that were very simplistic and monotonic as a means of conflating the film's gritty tone with that of antagonist Arthur Fleck. Guðnadóttir then attempted to expand the orchestration around Phoenix's character without chords or complicated music. Instead she developed a texture that she felt resonated with the melancholia of the character.

The score for Joker won numerous awards, including the Premio Soundtrack Stars Award at the 76th Venice International Film Festival and Best Original Score at the 77th Golden Globe Awards.

This album is a limited edition on purple coloured vinyl with printed insert and digital download code, pressed in the US via WaterTower Music.
