Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is a soundtrack album for the Marvel Studios movie of Guardians of the Galaxy, released in July 2014 via Hollywood Records.

In early 2014 the film’s director James Gunn revealed that the movie would incorporate songs from the 1970s and 1980s on a mixtape in the superhero Peter Quill’s Walkman. This would act as a way of staying connected with the Earth, home and family that he lost. A separate soundtrack album was released containing the original score for the movie composed by Tyler Bates.

All the songs on this album were featured in the movie except for “Spirit in the Sky”, which was used in the trailer.

The soundtrack album reached #1 on the US Billboard 200 chart, becoming the first soundtrack album in history consisting entirely of previously released songs to top the chart. It has gone onto sell more than 1.75 million copies in the US, and also peaked at #2 on the Australian ARIA Albums chart.
