Drift Code is the second solo studio album by British singer songwriter Rustin Man, released in February 2019 via Domino Recording.

Paul Webb was the bassist in English post rock band Talk Talk from 1981 to 1991, and has released solo material under the pseudonym Rustin Man.

Drift Code is the second album by Rustin Man, and the first revealing his own inimitable voice.

Before he became Rustin Man, he was known as plain old Paul Webb, former bass player and founder member of Talk Talk and O’rang. Drift Code is Rustin Man’s first release since 2002’s acclaimed Out Of Season album, recorded with Portishead’s Beth Gibbons.

“I’ve called the album ‘Drift Code’ because I like the tension that’s created when things seem regimented, rigid or stable on the surface, but dig a little deeper and you discover something free- spirited and against the grain lurking beneath. I also like the idea that life is just a puzzle that can’t be solved because the answer is always changing.” - Rustin Man

Shortly after finishing Out Of Season, Rustin Man began thinking about making a solo album. Songwriting and recording started in 2004, but was put on hold several times while he worked as a record producer for other artists. Rustin Man finished mixing the songs in March 2018.

Drift Code was recorded at his home in a converted barn in Essex. The instruments were recorded in a linear fashion: Rustin Man recorded all the bass parts for the entire album before returning to the first track and going through the guitar parts, and so on for each instrument thereafter.

He performed most of the instruments himself, and learned how to do so for the album; according to Rustin Man, learning each instrument to "a decent enough standard" was the main reason behind the lengthy recording process. For strings and horns, he recruited local orchestral musicians. The album also features contribution from friends and family, including Lee Harris (his former bandmate in Talk Talk and .O.rang), who played drums; and Snowboy, who brought and played his Clavioline keyboard.

Two singles were released from the album: “Vanishing Heart” in November 2018 and “Judgement Train” in January 2019.

This album is the deluxe edition on 180 gram black vinyl with a printed inner sleeve, photographic print and download code, pressed in Europe via Domino.
