King's Record Shop is the sixth studio album by American country music singer Rosanne Cash, originally released in June 1987 via Columbia Records.
During the 1980s Rosanne Cash scaled back her touring and recording commitments whilst she raised her family with then husband Rodney Crowell. In 1987 she released one of the most critically acclaimed albums of her career, King’s Record Shop. The album is named after a Record Shop in Louisville, Kentucky, whose shop front is featured on the album cover.
The album produced four number 1 singles on the US Billboard Country Singles chart - "The Way We Make a Broken Heart", "If You Change Your Mind", "Tennessee Flat Top Box", and "Runaway Train".
The album was produced by her musical partner Rodney Crowell and features a mix of cover songs and originals that transcended the song-writing and production styles of pop and country music of that time.
She delivers a straight country interpretation of her father’s (Johnny Cash) song “Tennessee Flat Top Box” and delivers a killer rendition of “Rosie Strikes Back” with backing vocals by Patty Smyth and Steve Winwood. Her original song “The Real Me” is a song from the heart demonstrating her vulnerabilities at that time. Her covers of John Hiatt’s “The Way We Make a Broken Heart” and John Stewart’s “Runaway Train”, are beautiful and heart wrenching.
This is a must addition to any country flavoured record collection.
Check out the singles: "The Way We Make a Broken Heart", "If You Change Your Mind", "Tennessee Flat Top Box", and "Runaway Train".
This LP record is a 30th Anniversary reissue on 180 gram vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with remastered audio and digital download code, pressed in Europe.
