Beautiful Noise is the tenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Neil Diamond, originally released in 1976 via Columbia Records.
After the success of his double live album Hot August Night (1972), Diamond took time out from the music business and touring to focus on raising his young family. He signed a lucrative recording contract with Columbia Records and released a soundtrack album Jonathan Livingston Seagull (1973) and a studio album Serenade (1974) before returning with his 1976 album Beautiful Noise.
The album was produced by The Band’s Robbie Robertson and also featured Garth Hudson on organ on some of the tracks. The record label billed the album as a “comeback” for Diamond and it was a more mature and diverse album in terms of song composition, production, style and arrangements.
The song “Dry Your Eyes” was co-written with Robbie Robertson and was performed at The Band’s farewell concert recorded on film by Martin Scorsese, The Last Waltz.
This is one of “The Captain’s” favourite Neil Diamond records. All the songs are consistently good and showcase his distinctive singing voice, with subtle and luscious arrangements.
Three singles were released from the album, "If You Know What I Mean", "Don't Think... Feel", and the title track, "Beautiful Noise". "If You Know What I Mean" was a #1 hit on Billboard's Easy Listening chart. "Don't Think... Feel" reached #43 in the U.S. charts, while "Beautiful Noise" reached #13 on the UK charts.
The album reached #1 on the Australian and New Zealand Albums charts, and also #4 in the US and #10 in the UK.
Check out the tracks: "If You Know What I Mean"; "Don't Think... Feel"; "Beautiful Noise"; “Stargazer”; and “Street Life”.
This LP record is a Neil Diamond 50th Year Anniversary edition 2017 reissue on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with remastered audio, pressed in the US via Capitol Records.
