Metallica - S&M2

S&M2 is a live album by American metal band Metallica, with the San Francisco Symphony, released in August 2020 via Blackened Records.

In 2019 Metallica announced that the band would perform at the grand opening of San Francisco's new Chase Center with the San Francisco Symphony orchestra in September 2019 to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of their symphonic rock live album S&M (1999). The commemorative shows, titled S&M2, were screened in over 3,000 theatres worldwide on 9 October 2019.

The event featured arrangements from the original S&M concerts as well as new arrangements for songs recorded since then and a cover of the Alexander Mosolov piece Iron Foundry, and were conducted by Edwin Outwater and San Francisco Symphony music director Michael Tilson Thomas.

S&M2 went on to earn $5.5 million at the box office, making it the biggest global rock event cinema release of all time; a second screening was later announced for 30 October 2019 as a result.

In August 2020, the band announced that they would release the S&M2 performances as a live album, DVD and box set.
