John Farnham - Age Of Reason

Age Of Reason is the thirteenth studio album by Australian singer John Farnham, originally released in July 1988 via RCA Victor Records and Wheatley Records.

The Age of Reason was the follow-up to the smash hit album Whispering Jack (1986) and continued with a selection of songs and production style that mirrored the success of that album.

The sound is very much centred in the 1980s with extensive use of keyboards played by Australian musician David Hirschfelder who was an integral member of Farnham’s backing band at that time.

The first single released from the album “Age of Reason” was a huge hit topping the singles charts in Australia. The song was written by Dragon member Todd Hunter and his partner Johanna Pigott. It is a great pop song with a memorable chorus and Farnham’s vocal is emotive and touching.

Other great songs on the album include “Two Strong Hearts”, “We’re No Angels”, “Listen To The Wind”, “Blow by Blow” and “Some Do, Some Don’t”.

The album featured many musicians from Farnham’s touring band at that time including the Venetta Fields and Lindsay Field on backing vocals. Also featured were some guest artists including Jon Stevens (vocals) on “Listen to the Wind”, James Morrison (trumpet) on “Some Do, Some Don’t”, Bill Harrower (sax) on “Blow by Blow” and Ross Hannaford on backing vocals.

The album reached #1 on the Australian Albums charts and has sold well over 770,000 copies.

This is a must have album to add to any John Farnham record collection.
