The Roulette Sides is a Record Store Day 2016 exclusive release from American jazz saxophonist and composer John Coltrane, released via Parlophone Records.
Originally released in April, 1976, The Roulette Sides contains recordings done for the New York-based, Roulette Records in 1959 by prolific jazz musician John Coltrane.
Featuring Coltrane's classic quartet of McCoy Tyner on piano, Billy Higgins on drums, and Steve Davis on bass, these recordings are from Coltrane’s sole session for Roulette Records, and the first time Tyner and Coltrane came into contact with each other in the studio, resulting in a raw version of the quartet’s signature sound, which audiences would later become familiar with on the quartet's first Atlantic LP Giant Steps, released a year later.
The Roulette Sides is mastered from the session's original tapes, and is limited to 4,500 copies.
This Limited Edition 10" 33 ⅓ RPM Vinyl EP is housed in a glossy cardboard sleeve, and was pressed in the EU.
