Jim Lawrie - Slacker Of The Year

Slacker of the Year is the third studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Jim Lawrie, released in June 2017 via Barely Dressed Records.

Jim Lawrie was the drummer in the band Eagle and the Worm, and is an artist transitioning from his previous incarnation as a folk singer-songwriter into a purveyor of soaring alt-country rock 'n' roll. On record and live, his performances are gorgeous and Jim's trademark vocal purity is a highlight; melodic, harmonious, warm and human.  

Following the release of the critically acclaimed album Eons (2015), Lawrie continues to make sophisticated music with his voice very much out front and centre of the songs. The title track “Slacker of the Year” was released earlier in the year and opens with finger picking guitar and moves at a nice mellow pace with a strong melody and backing instrumentation, including haunting lead guitar.

The album is his most ambitious work yet, and explores the concept of new love, rather than dwelling on love lost.

This is a superb album and well worth adding to a record collection. “The Captain” loves this one.

The album was produced by Jim Lawrie and recorded and mixed by Callum John Barter at Newmarket Studios, with additional engineering and production by Robert Muinos. The album was mastered by Steve Smart at Studios 301, Sydney.
