Gorilla Biscuit is a compilation album by Australian rock band Hoodoo Gurus, originally released in September 1992 via BMG.
The Hoodoo Gurus formed in Sydney in 1981 by the mainstay Dave Faulkner (songwriter, lead singer and guitarist) and later joined by Richard Grossman (bass), Mark Kingsmill (drums), and Brad Shepherd (guitar, vocals, harmonica).
Gorilla Biscuit is the companion album to the singles compilation album Electric Soup, with both albums being released on CD at the same time. Electric Soup contains the bands singles, and Gorilla Biscuit the B-Sides of singles plus rare and previously unreleased material.
Electric Soup reflected the record labels push for commercial success and Gorilla Biscuit represented the bands selection of material that they felt better represented who they were and the music they made.
In an interview with the Canberra Times, Brad Shepherd spoke about both albums: “…you just have to listen to (Electric Soup), it's just jam packed full of pretty groovy songs... The best of was always the record company's idea and the B-side was always our idea to combat that. We think if a best of is representative of a band then a B-side album is even more representative..." Shepherd also explained the album names: "Electric Soup is another name for Jack Daniels bourbon... Gorilla Biscuit is slang for 'downers' like mandrax...”.
Both compilation albums met with considerable commercial success, reaching #3 on the Australian ARIA albums charts.
This double album 2LP record set is a 2018 reissue on 180 gram light blue coloured vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with a printed insert and remastered audio, pressed in Australia via Big Time Records.
