Maiden Voyage is the fifth studio album by American jazz musician Herbie Hancock, originally released in April 1966 via Blue Note Records.
With Maiden Voyage, Hancock fashioned a modern jazz milestone with extraordinary compositions, interplay and solos.
Featuring Hancock with tenor saxophonist George Coleman, trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams, it is a concept album aimed at creating an oceanic atmosphere.
Many of the track titles refer to marine biology or the sea, and the musicians develop the concept through their use of space.
The result: every single cut here - from the haunting "Maiden Voyage" to the gentle, swinging "Dolphin Dance" - has found its way into the standard jazz repertoire.
The album was presented with the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 1999.
This album is a 2021 “Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series” reissue on 180 gram black audiophile vinyl with remastered audio from the original analogue tapes, pressed in Europe via Blue Note Records.
