Vacation is the second studio album by American rock band The Go-Go’s, originally released in August 1982 via I.R.S. Records.

The Go-Go's are an American all-female rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1978. The Go-Go's rose to fame during the early 1980s as an all-female band that both wrote their own songs and played their own instruments, rising to the top of the Billboard album charts.

Their 1981 debut album, Beauty and the Beat, is considered one of the "cornerstone albums of US new wave", breaking barriers and paving the way for a host of other new American acts. Their debut album went on to top the Billboard 200 albums chart, selling over 7 million copies worldwide.

The Go-Go's broke up in 1985, but have reconvened several times through the 1990s and beyond, recording new material and touring. The band remains active to this day, having most recently toured in 2016.

Their second studio album Vacation was produced by Richard Gottehrer and released a year after their successful debut album Beauty And The Beat.

The album is a slicker affair than it’s predecessor and contains some strong pop songs, however it does not have the same level of energy and fun. The single “Vacation” provided the band with another Top 10 hit in the US, however the band was showing signs of burn-out.

Despite their “safe” image, it later transpired that The Go-Go’s were more than able to give the average all-male outfit a run for their money when it came to on-the-road excesses, which eventually took their toll.

The second single “Get Up And Go” reached #50 and the third single “This Old Feeling” failed to chart.

The album reached #8 on the US Billboard 200, #75 on the UK and #71 on the Australian Albums charts.

Members of the band that recorded this album were:

  • Belinda Carlisle – lead vocals
  • Charlotte Caffey – lead guitar, keyboards, background vocals
  • Gina Schock – drums, percussion, background vocals
  • Kathy Valentine – bass guitar, background vocals
  • Jane Wiedlin – rhythm guitar, vocals
