All Things Must Pass is the third studio album by English musician George Harrison, originally released in November 1970 by Apple Records.
Without a doubt, Harrison's first proper solo recording, originally issued as a triple album, is his best. Drawing on his backlog of unused compositions from the late Beatles era, Harrison crafted material that managed the rare feat of conveying spiritual mysticism without sacrificing his gifts for melody and grand, sweeping arrangements.
Enhanced by Phil Spector's lush orchestral production and Harrison's own superb slide guitar, every song is excellent: "Awaiting On You All", "Beware Of Darkness", the Dylan collaboration "I'd Have You Anytime", "Isn't It A Pity", and the hit singles "My Sweet Lord" and "What Is Life" are just a few of the highlights.
A very moving work, bolstered by the Apple Jams that comprise the final third of the album. Those same jams, however, played by Eric Clapton, Carl Radle, Bobby Whitlock, and Jim Gordon, proved to be of immense musical importance, precipitating the formation of Derek & The Dominos.
Musicians that participated in the recording sessions included Eric Clapton (uncredited), Ringo Starr, Gary Wright, Klaus Voorman, Jim Gordon, Carle Radle, Billy Preson, Alan White, Peter Frampton, Bobby Keys, Gary Brooker, Pete Ham, Bobby Whitlock and more.
The black and white photograph featured on the album cover was shot in Harrison's garden on the main lawn at Friar Park, where the gnomes had recently been delivered and placed on the lawn. The album package was one of the first rock albums to be housed in a hinged box, which had typically been associated with classical music releases. A fold out poster was included showing Harrison in a darkened corridor of his home, standing in front of an iron-framed window.
The album was a huge commercial success reaching #1 on the US, UK and Australian Albums charts. The single "My Sweet Lord" also reached #1 in many countries including the US, UK and Australia.
The album also received critical acclaim upon releae and regularly features on "best of lists" including in 1993 when Rolling Stone placed it at #433 on the magazine's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".
This triple album 3LP record set is reissued (Feb 2017) on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl featuring remastered audio housed in a box set with replicated original artwork, pressed in Europe.
