Warriors is the seventh studio album by British synth-pop musician Gary Numan, originally released in September 1983 via Beggars Banquet.
Gary Webb, better known professionally as Gary Numan is an English singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. He first entered the music industry as the lead singer of the new wave band Tubeway Army. Most widely known for his chart-topping hits "Are 'Friends' Electric?" and "Cars", Numan achieved his peak of mainstream popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s, but maintains a loyal cult following.
Numan, whose signature sound consists of heavy synthesizer hooks fed through guitar effects pedals, is considered a pioneer of commercial electronic music. In the 1990s Numan’s music has incorporated darker and more industrial elements that has won him critical acclaim and in In 2017, he received an Ivor Novello Award, the Inspiration Award, from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors.
Warriors was co-produced with Bill Nelson (Be-Bop Deluxe) and the album continues Numan’s ambient-funk experimentations. This was the first album where a co-producer had been used at the suggestion of the record label, and Newman would later reflect that by bringing in many other musicians to record this album, he lost his sense of individual artistic direction. Bill Nelson provided much of the guitar work on the album, which was more prominent than on the previous albums, and Numan and Nelson quarrelled during the recording of the album, disagreeing on how it should sound.
Despite the difficulties in recording and producing the album, it reached #12 on the UK album charts and garnered some positive reviews from the music press at that time.
This album is a 2021 limited edition reissue on orange coloured vinyl with a printed inner sleeve, pressed in Europe via Beggars Banquet.
