Metallica - The $5.98 E.P. Garage Days Re-Visited

The $5.98 E.P.: Garage Days Re-Revisited is an EP by American metal band Metallica, originally released in August 1987 via Elektra Records.

The extended play consisted entirely of covers of late 1970s and early 1980s new wave of British heavy metal bands and hardcore punk music.

The tracks were rehearsed in Lars Ulrich's soundproofed garage and then recorded in Los Angeles over the course of six days.

It was the group's first recording to feature its new bassist Jason Newsted, and also the band's first release following the death of second bassist Cliff Burton.

The title had The $5.98 E.P. included in an effort to ensure that fans were not overcharged for it in the US. In Australia, the EP was released with a sticker saying that the album title did not indicate that this was the price for the EP to be sold at retail outlets.

The EP has long been out of print and was included as a second disc in the release of Garage Inc. in 1998.

In 1987 the EP reached #28 on the US Billboard 200 Albums chart and in 2018, the EP reached #18 on the US charts following the reissue.

In 2018, the EP is being reissued on vinyl again with remastered audio.
