Paranoid is the second studio album by British rock band Black Sabbath, released in September 1970 on Vertigo Records.
Paranoid was recorded soon after the release of their debut album Black Sabbath with producer Rodger Bain. Most of the songs on the album had evolved from their live show "jams".
Paranoid contains several of the band's signature songs, including "Iron Man", "War Pigs" and the title track "Paranoid", which was the band's only Top 20 hit, reaching number 4 in the UK charts.
The artwork for the album was designed for it's original working title "War Pigs", before it was decided on the name Paranoid.
Paranoid is often regarded as one of the most quintessential and influential albums in heavy metal history.
Paranoid was the band's only LP to top the UK Albums Chart until the release of 13 in 2013. Paranoid reached No. 12 in the US in March 1971.
The album is currently ranked at No. 131 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
In the Holiday 2008 issue of Guitar World, Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead called "Iron Man" one of the most memorable riffs of all time.
