C.W. Stoneking - King Hokum

King Hokum is the debut studio album by Australian blues singer-songwriter C.W. Stoneking, originally released in March 2005 via King Hokum Records.

Christopher William "C.W." Stoneking is an Australian blues singer-songwriter, guitarist and banjo player. He has released three studio albums, King Hokum (2005), Jungle Blues (2008) and Gon' Boogaloo (2014), on his own King Hokum Records label.

Stoneking recorded an album of original blues compositions in 2005, titled King Hokum.  The album was produced by J. Walker and is set in an imaginary old-time Southern town populated with singing dodo birds, sinister handymen, broken-hearted street singers and old testament field hollerers.

The album also features Soneking's backing band the Primitive Horn Orchestra on a number of tunes helping to complete the 1920's southern gothic blues sound.

The album was received with great critical acclaim in the Australian media almost a year after its release in 2006. Radio presenter Tim Ritchie picked Stoneking's King Hokum as his album of the year on Radio National's Breakfast program in 2006.

King Hokum was nominated for the Best Blues/Roots Album in the ARIA Music Awards of 2007. It won the Best Independent Blues Release award in the 2007 AIR Awards (Australian Independent Record Industry Awards).
