Hard Rain is the second live album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, originally released in September 1976 via Columbia Records.

Dylan's Hard Rain is a live album, captured during the second leg of the Rolling Thunder Revue tour. It was recorded on two dates in May 1976, during a concert at Hughes Stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado. It is the follow up of the 1974 live album Before The Flood.

Oddly enough, the album is named after one of his most famous songs, "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" but that song happens to be missing from the album. The fact that it poured rain for most of the concert may be the reason for the title of this album.

The Rolling Thunder Revue was a concert tour by Bob Dylan with a traveling caravan of musicians, including Joan Baez, Roger McGuinn, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. The tour included 57 concerts in two legsā€”the first in the American northeast and Canada in the fall of 1975, and the second in the American south and southwest in the spring of 1976.

Bob Neuwirth assembled the backing musicians, including T-Bone Burnett, Mick Ronson, David Mansfield, Steven Soles, and from the Desire sessions, violinist Scarlet Rivera, bassist Rob Stoner, and drummer Howie Wyeth.

The Hard Rain album was produced by Bob Dylan and Don DeVito and the musicians were:

  • Gary Burke - drums
  • T-Bone Burnett - guitar, piano
  • David Mansfield - guitar
  • Scarlet Rivera - strings
  • Mick Ronson - guitar
  • Steven Soles - guitar, background vocals
  • Rob Stoner - bass, background vocals
  • Howard Wyeth - drums, piano

The album peaked at #17 in the US and #3 in the UK. Hard Rain eventually earned gold certification.
