Don’t Say No is the second studio album by American rock musician Billy Squier, originally released in April 1981 via Capitol Records.
Billy Squier had wanted Brian May of Queen to produce his second album, however May declined due to scheduling conflicts. He recommended Reinhold Mack (known as Mack), the German record producer and engineer who worked mostly at Georgio Moroder’s Musicland Studios in Munich, with bands such as Queen, ELO, Rainbow and T-Rex.
The album was recorded with a crack set of studio musicians including Uriah Heep member Mark Clarke on bass, Alan St. Jon on keyboards, Cary Sharaf guitar solo on “Lonely Is The Night”, and Bobby Chouinard on drums
The resulting album stands as Billy Squier’s most successful release of his career, with four tracks from this album becoming classic rock radio staples in heavy rotation to this day; "In the Dark", "The Stroke", "My Kinda Lover" and "Lonely is the Night."
“The Stroke” was released as the first single from the album, reaching #17 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart with the second single “In The Dark” reaching #35 on the Hot 100 chart.
The album peaked at #5 on the US Billboard 200 Albums chart and remained on the chart for more than two years, for 111 weeks.
Approaching the albums 40th Anniversary, Intervention Records have reissued the album on vinyl LP with the following features:
