Aretha is the 31st studio album by American soul singer songwriter Aretha Franklin, originally released in October 1986 via Arista Records.

This album was the third self-titled studio album to be released following her 1961 debut and 1980 self-titled album.

Aretha was mostly produced by Narada Michael Walden, who had produced most of her previous studio album Who’s Zommin’ Who? (1985).

The album was very successful, notable for containing five R&B hits, including the number 1 hit single, her duet with George Michael "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)". This became her first #1 pop hit single since “Respect” in 1967. The album also yielded three other hit singles: "Jimmy Lee", "Rock-A-Lott" and a hard rock cover of The Rolling Stones' classic, "Jumpin' Jack Flash". All four of the pop singles were shot as music videos that received extensive play on MTV and other music video channels.

Aretha herself says on the liner notes that this is one of her favourite albums, and it's easy to see why. She sings her head off on this album, and sounds like she's having so much fun on each and every song.

The album is noteworthy for the cover artwork, which was Andy Warhol's final work before his death in early 1987.

This album is a limited edition of 2000 individually numbered copies on 180 gram translucent green coloured audiophile vinyl with a printed insert, pressed in Europe via Music On Vinyl.
