Live At The Royal Albert Hall is the second live album by British rock band Arctic Monkeys, released in December 2020 via Domino Recording Company.
In October 2020 Arctic Monkeys announced that they would be releasing a live album from their 2018 Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino world tour, recorded at the Royal Albert Hotel on 7 June 2018. The live album would be released to help raise funds for the War Child UK charity to help a funding gap caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The band released a statement in a press release as follows:
“On June 7, 2018 we played a very special show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. All the proceeds from that memorable night were donated to War Child UK in support of the vital work they do protecting, educating and rehabilitating children who have experienced the trauma of conflict and the horror of war. The situation that was bad in 2018 is now desperate and those children and their families need our help more than ever. To enable War Child UK to reduce their funding deficit and continue their valuable work, we are happy to be able to release a live album, recorded that evening at The Royal Albert Hall. All proceeds will go direct to the charity. We thank all our fans in advance for their support of this release and in turn for their support of War Child UK” - Arctic Monkeys.
The twenty songs included on this live album are heavily weighted towards their two most recent studio album s AM (2013) and Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino (2018), which highlight how the band has maintained a consistently strong sense of melody in their song structures. There is liberal use of keyboards to back most of the tracks and Alex Turner’s voice sounds in great form. Their distinctive guitar sound is sprinkled throughout the songs.
The band exude energy throughout the tracks and the playing is really tight, and the crowd sound like they are having a good time throughout.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable live album, and even better that proceeds from the show and the album release are going to charity.
This double album 2LP record set is on 180 gram heavyweight clear coloured vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves, pressed in Europe via Domino.
