The Cure - Disintegration

Disintegration is the eighth studio album by British alternative rock band The Cure, originally released in May 1989 via Fiction Records.

Formed in Crawley, West Sussex, in 1976, The Cure first began releasing music in the late 1970s with their debut album Three Imaginary Boys; this, along with several early singles, placed the band as part of the post-punk and new wave movements that had sprung up in the UK following the decline of the punk rock genre. During the early 1980s, the band's increasingly dark and tormented music became a staple of the emerging gothic rock genre, going on to sell more than 27 million albums world wide.

Disintegration marks a return to the introspective and gloomy gothic rock style The Cure had established in the early 1980s. Disintegration was recorded at Hookend Studios in Checkendon, Oxfordshire, with co-producer David M. Allen between November 1988 and February 1989.

Disintegration became the band's commercial peak, charting at number three in the United Kingdom and at number twelve in the United States, and producing several hit singles including "Lovesong", which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

Later described as "culmination of all the musical directions The Cure were pursuing over the course of the '80s", the album was initially greeted with a warm critical reception, and earned critical acclaim in retrospective analysis, eventually making it to number 326 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

Four singles were released from the album: "Lullaby", "Fascination Street", "Lovesong", and "Pictures of You".

This double album 2LP record set is a 2019 repressing on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves, featuring remastered audio by Robert Smith from the original master tapes, pressed in the EU.
