September is the first extended play (EP) by Australian indie folk band The Mae Trio, released in October 2015 via The Mae Trio.

About the Band:

The Mae Trio are a young, contemporary folk band from Melbourne, Australia comprising Maggie Rigby, Elsie Rigby and Anita Hillman. Since the release of their critically acclaimed debut studio album Housewarming in 2013, they have made a vibrant splash in the international acoustic music scene across Australia, UK and America. This has included appearances at Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow, Americana Music Festival in Nashville, Cambridge Folk Festival in England, Perthshire Amber Festival in Scotland and Woodford, Port Fairy and The National Folk Festivals in Australia.

Humbly authentic, dynamic and striking, the trio write powerful original songs, accompanying them on cello, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and ukulele and stunning three part harmonies. Their disarming on-stage presence and originality makes for a spellbinding and refreshing live experience. 2016 has seen The Mae Trio embark on their first tour of Canada as well as the upcoming release of their Nashville-recorded, second full-length album Take Care, Take Cover in early 2017.

About the EP:

September sees the Mae Trio present five songs of which two are origianal songs written by Maggie Rigby and three cover songs arranged and presented with The Mae Trio's unique arrangements and vocal harmonies. The band approached the EP as a snapshot of their lives in September 2015, recorded quickly in Castlemaine in Central Victoria with additional mixing and mastering at Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne.

The song She Loves Me When I Try is a beautiful cover of a song by Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean from his 1988 album Real Estate, which showcase the girls harmonies. The two original songs Mr Moon and Raincoat are homages to the deep love between a girl and her banjo. Buzzcut Season is the band's first foray into the pop domain, with a cover of the Lorde song which takes it in a new direction with delicious harmonies and a stripped backing track.

The final track is Glory Bound a Ruth Moody composition originally performed with The Wailin' Jennys, and is presented with an acapella arrangement which draws you in to the song. A nice way to finish the EP.

Here are some live clips of the songs from the EP, including a performance of She Loves Me with Dougie MacLean:  She Loves Me When I Try, Buzzcut Season, Mr Moon, Raincoat and Glory Bound.

This Extended Play is on Compact Disc housed in a gatefold cardboard cover, pressed in Australia.
