Dutch Tilders Direct / The Blues Had A Baby is a double album by Australian blues musician Dutch Tilders, originally released in 2004 via Dutch Tilders.
Dubbed the Godfather of Australian Blues, Dutch Tilders released his self-titled debut album in August 1972, after signing to Ron Tudor's Bootleg Records in September 1970 following his appearance on the talent show New Faces, where Tudor was one of the judges. With backing provided by members of Chain, and production by Brian Cadd, the album featured Tilders playing down-home Mississippi delta acoustic blues on one side, and on the other Chicago electric blues, which would later be described by journalist Ian McFarlane as "the man's mastery of the blues form". After signing to the independent label Eureka Records, Dutch Tilders went on to front The Elks, the Cyril ‘B’ Bunter Band and Mickey Finn, as well as working solo and touring with the likes of John Mayall, Taj Mahal, Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry, and B.B. King.
Dutch Tilders Direct was recorded in January 1980 direct to disc with a backing band of Jim Conway (mouth harp), Bob Bertles (alto, soprano saxes) and Peter Howell (bass), and was produced by Lee Simmonds.
The Blues Had A Baby was recorded in August 1980, again using the direct to disc process, but this time departing from the blues of previous albums for a blues rock style. Entering the studio with the Kevin Borich Express to record the album. The Express was comprised of Kevin Borich (lead guitar, vocals), Michael Deep (bass) and John Watson (drums), with Bob Bertles contributing sax. The single "Bad Books"/"The Blues Had a Baby" was released from the album in April 1981.
Both albums have been remastered and include bonus tracks on this reissued CD.
Check out the tracks "Next In Line", "Baby What's Wrong", and "Bad Books".
This CD is housed in a jewel case with printed fold-out insert, containing remastered audio of 2 studio albums with 3 bonus tracks, pressed in Australia via Dutch Tilders and Peanut Promotions.
