Tales Of Mystery And Imagination is the first studio album by British Progressive Rock band The Alan Parsons Project, released on 20th Century Fox in May 1976.

The Alan Parsons Project were active between 1975 and 1990, consisting of Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson surrounded by a varying number of session musicians and some relatively consistent band members such as guitarist Ian Bairnson, bassist and vocalist David Paton, drummer Stuart Elliott, and vocalist Lenny Zakatek.

Behind the revolving line-up and the regular sidemen, the true core of the Project was the duo of Parsons and Woolfson. Woolfson was a songwriter by profession, but also a composer and pianist. Almost all songs on the band's albums are credited to Parsons/Woolfson. Bairnson and Elliott would continue to collaborate on Parsons’ solo albums, and contribute significantly to the songwriting.

The Project’s albums while not necessarily concept albums were based on individual themes.

Tales Of Mystery And Imagination is based on the life work of the great author and poet, Edgar Allan Poe, the lyrical and musical themes – retellings of Poe’s horror stories attracted a cult audience. The title of the album is taken from a popular title for a collection of Poe's macabre tales of the same name, Tales Of Mystery & Imagination, first published in 1908 and reprinted many times since.

Tales Of Mystery And Imagination with the use of synthesizers, drums, guitar, a glockenspiel and Parson’s' shivering effects make way for an eerie and extremely mesmerizing aural journey through some of Poe’s's most renowned works. The EMI vocoder is used throughout the chamber like sound of The Raven. Parson’s' expertise surrounds this album, from the slyness that prevails in (The System Of) Doctor Tarr And Professor Fether to the thumping of the drums that imitate a heartbeat on The Tell-Tale Heart. The Fall Of The House Of Usher is a lengthy but dazzling array of musicianship that keeps the album's persona intact, while enabling the listener to submerge into its atmosphere.

Tales Of Mystery And Imagination peaked at No. 38 on Billboard’s Pop Albums chart. (The System Of) Doctor Tarr And Professor Fether peaked at No. 37 on the Pop Singles chart.

This LP on 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl in a Gatefold Sleeve was released in 2009 and pressed in Europe.
