Résistance is the second studio album by Malian blues rock band, Songhoy Blues, released in June 2017 via Transgressive Records.

Songhoy Blues was formed in Bamako, Mali after band member Garba Touré (guitars, vocals) was forced to flee the north of Mali following a jihadist group that took control, banning cigarettes, alcohol and music. Together with Aliou Touré (guitars, vocals), Oumar Touré (bass, vocals) and Nathanael Dembélé (drums, vocals), they formed a band "... to recreate that lost ambience of the north and make all the refugees relive those northern songs." They are Songhoy people and the band name comes from their ethnicity and the genre of music they play, 'desert blues'.

Songhoy Blues began playing on the Bamako club circuit, attracting both Songhoy and Tuareg fans. In 2013 the band came to the attention of international musicians and producers including Damon Albarn and Nick Zinner, guitarist with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Zinner produced their breakout single “Soubour” and their debut album Music In Excile, which was released to universal acclaim. In the NME, Kevin EG Perry described the album as "a masterpiece of desert blues; blending American guitar licks with Malian groove". The band were nominated for "Best New Act" at the 2015 Q Awards.

In 2017 they have released their second studio album Résistance, produced by Neil Comber. The album features special guests Iggy Pop and South London grime, Elf Kid.

The album fuses their unique electric guitar driven sound with blues, funk, and rock. Standout tracks include the first single Bamako, which showcases a James Brown groove with a vibrant horn section and Sahara in which Iggy Pop adds his unique vocal touches. Mali Nord is a great song as well with the addition of Elf Kid sitting really well within the feeling of the song. Hometown features the addition of violin played by British indie-folk musician William Harvey.

The album closes with One Colour which incorporates some lyrics in English and features The Children's Choir Of The Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle, conducted by Harvey Grant, together with backing vocals by British electro pop band Stealing Sheep.

“The Captain” likes this album, which is both eclectic and joyous, and makes a wonderful addition to any music collection.

Check out the following songs:  Bamako; Sahara; Sahara (Live); One Colour; One Colour (Live); Hometown; and Mali Nord.

This LP record is on black vinyl with a die-cut inner sleeve and digital download code, pressed in Europe.
