Once Upon a Time is the seventh studio album by Scottish pop rock band Simple Minds, originally released in October 1985 via Virgin Records.

Formed in Glasgow in 1977, Simple Minds rose to prominence with a string of hit singles, becoming best known internationally for their 1985 song "Don't You (Forget About Me)" (UK #7, US #1, CAN #1) from the soundtrack of the film The Breakfast Club. Other prominent hits include "Alive and Kicking" (UK #7, US #3, CAN #3) and "Belfast Child" (UK #1, IRE #1, NLD #1). Although the height of the band's fame was in the 80's, becoming the most successful Scottish band of the period with five UK number one albums, and more than 30 million records worldwide to date, and despite various personnel changes, Simple Minds continue to record and tour.

Recorded at Virgin's Townhouse Studios in London, working with producer Jimmy Iovine (the co-founder of Interscope Records), Once Upon a Time features a more aggressive, guitar based approach than previous Simple Minds albums, taken from Iovine's work with Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Nicks. Despite the success of the single  "Don't You (Forget About Me)" in the US, the band deliberately left the track off the album due to their reluctance to record it. Still, the bombastic pop rock sound proved influential in the construction of much of Once Upon a Time, sharing many influences with their previous studio album, Sparkle in the Rain, which explored a similar songwriting style.

The album topped the UK charts, reached the No. 7 position on the Australian charts, and peaked at No. 10 on the US charts, spending five consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of Billboard and 16 weeks in the Top 20.

Four singles were released from the album: "Alive and Kicking" (UK No. 7, US No. 3), "All the Things She Said" (UK No. 9, US No. 28), "Sanctify Yourself" (UK No. 10, US No. 14), and "Ghost Dancing" (UK No. 13).

This LP Record is Reissued (December 2015) on 180 Gram Vinyl with a Printed Inner Sleeve, pressed in Europe via Virgin Records.
