marillion.com is the 11th studio album by British progressive rock band Marillion, released in November 1999 via Intact Records.

About the Band:

Marillion are a British progressive rock band, formed in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England, in 1979. They emerged from the post-punk music scene in Britain and are credited with creating a bridge between the styles of punk rock and classic progressive rock, becoming the most commercially successful neo-progressive rock band of the 1980s.

They have sold more than 15 million albums.  Marillion's recorded studio output since 1982 is generally regarded in two distinct eras, delineated by the departure of original frontman Fish in late 1988, and the subsequent arrival of replacement Steve Hogarth in early 1989.

The band achieved eight Top Ten UK albums between 1983 and 1994, including a number one album in 1985 with Misplaced Childhood, and during the period the band were fronted by Fish they scored eleven Top 40 hits on the UK Singles Chart.

They are best known for the 1985 singles "Kayleigh" and "Lavender", which reached number two and number five respectively.

The first album released with Hogarth, 1989's Seasons End, was another Top Ten hit.

The band continue to record and tour internationally, and were ranked 38th in Classic Rock's "50 Best Live Acts of All Time" in 2008.

The current members of Marillion are:

  • Steve Hogarth – lead vocals, keyboards
  • Mark Kelly - keyboards
  • Ian Mosley - drums
  • Steve Rothery - guitars
  • Pete Trewavas - bass, guitars

About the Album:

marillion.com was the last album released under contract with Castle Communications before the band went independent and pioneered "crowd funding" for their subsequent studio album releases.

The album peaked at #53 on the UK album charts and the song "Deserve" was released as a promo single.  There was also a video made for the track "Deserve", featuring tour and backstage footage - Click Here to see the clip.

marillion.com was self-produced with additional production from Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson on five out of nine tracks.

The last track, "House", features a dance (trip hop) influence and had the working title "the Massive Attack song".  The band would go on to explore this territory on their next album Anoraknophobia.

The album's title is a reference to Marillion's then-new approach in using the internet to communicate with their fans, and in particular to ensure the financing of projects, which would later become known as "crowdfunding".

In 1997, fans had funded a US tour which Castle Communications had refused to support, and the next album, Anoraknophobia would be completely financed by pre-orders, making the band independent from record company support, except for distribution. The line "thank God for the internet" from the track "Interior Lulu" (although used ironically in the original context) can also be read as a reference to the band's internet activities, and was in fact used as a slogan later.

While preparing the album, the band's management invited fans to send them passport photographs and 732 of these were then used to make up the artwork for the booklet.

This is a Double Album 2LP Reissue on 180 Gram Vinyl, housed in a Gatefold Sleeve with Printed Inner Sleeves with Lyrics, pressed in Germany.
